How the rhythm game works
Choose Lantern Walk, Market Parade, or Final Roar. A four-beat count-in starts the pattern. Colored cues travel from right to left, and the white hit line marks the moment to play. Amber circles call for the drum center, vermilion diamonds call for the rim, and jade stars call for the cymbal. Finish the phrase to receive weighted accuracy, hit count, best combo, mean timing offset, and an early-versus-late summary.
Each pattern is an original sequence created for this site. It is short enough to replay but long enough to reveal a timing tendency. Your best percentage for each pattern stays in this browser so a later visit can show improvement without an account.
Three clear inputs
Drum center, rim, and cymbal controls
Press 1 for the drum center, 2 for the rim, and 3 for the cymbal. The same three actions appear as large touch buttons. The game uses Pointer Events, so a mouse, pen, or finger follows the same control path. Free Drum mode removes scoring and lets you hear the three synthesized surfaces before starting a pattern.
The sounds are generated at play time by the Web Audio API. Center and rim hits use short oscillator envelopes, while the cymbal uses a brief filtered noise burst. No sample library, commercial recording, performance clip, or third-party song is downloaded.
Useful, limited feedback
Timing feedback stays on this device
A hit within 55 milliseconds of its cue is Perfect. Wider windows award Great or Good, while a late cue becomes a Miss. The result is a browser-game timing estimate, not a musical examination or scientific measurement. Screen refresh rate, Bluetooth audio, keyboard hardware, touch processing, and browser scheduling can all affect a displayed millisecond value.
The optional eight-tap calibration stores one local input offset. Practice history and the offset use localStorage. They are not sent with the game’s analytics events. You can clear them through browser site-data controls. Read the privacy page for the exact optional analytics boundary.
Accessible practice
Built for keyboard, touch, and low-flash play
The three pads keep distinct labels, shapes, and colors, so color is never the only cue. The Low Flash switch shortens pad feedback and removes decorative transitions. Operating-system reduced-motion preferences also disable nonessential movement. Sound may be turned off while the visual highway remains playable, although calibration requires audible clicks to be meaningful.
At 390 CSS pixels the routines, score panel, cue lane, and pads form one vertical sequence with large targets. Keyboard players can keep both hands near 1–3, while touch players can strike the full-width controls. The complete control guide explains scoring, calibration, and device limitations.

Festival-inspired by design
Lantern Roar Rhythm is an original, fictional browser rhythm game inspired by the energy of public lion dance celebrations. It is not an authentic lion dance curriculum, a transcription of one troupe’s routine, or a substitute for instruction from a tradition bearer. Regional lineages use different instruments, calls, movement relationships, and teaching methods.
The abstract lion artwork, pattern names, cue sequences, interface, writing, code, and synthesized sounds were made for this project. The game does not reproduce a troupe logo, costume pattern, performance recording, existing app level, or named ceremonial rhythm. For formal learning, seek a qualified local school or cultural organization.
