An original rhythm game with a clear boundary

Lantern Roar Rhythm was built as a free, compact browser game for people searching for a lion dance drum game they can open without installing an app. It uses three abstract surfaces—drum center, drum rim, and cymbal—inside an original rhythm interface. The rules, pattern sequences, scoring, writing, visual direction, and browser-synthesized sounds were created for this project.

Festival-inspired, not an authentic curriculum

Lion dance is a living cultural practice with regional lineages, schools, instrument combinations, movement relationships, and ceremonial contexts. This site does not claim to teach an authentic troupe routine. It does not transcribe an existing performance, reproduce a school’s visual identity, or substitute for instruction from a tradition bearer. “Festival-inspired” is the deliberate and limited description.

The abstract lion image was generated from an original art direction that prohibited logos, copyrighted characters, real costumes, readable text, and photographic performers. The game uses no external audio samples: the Web Audio API creates short oscillator and filtered-noise sounds locally when a player strikes a pad.

Why the feedback is modest

The displayed early-or-late value is a browser-game estimate. It can help a player compare repeated runs on the same setup, but it is not a scientific latency test, musical qualification, medical assessment, or promise of real-world performance skill. Hardware, wireless audio, the display, browser scheduling, and the input device can all change the result. Calibration stores one optional local offset to reduce a consistent device delay.
